White House Warns of Consequences if Iran Builds Nuclear Weapons
President Donald Trump has issued a stern warning to Iran, cautioning that severe consequences will follow if it refuses to give up its nuclear ambitions, his press secretary told reporters on Friday (April 11, 2025), ahead of scheduled U.S.-Iran talks set for Saturday.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that President Trump’s top priority is preventing Iran from ever acquiring a nuclear weapon. While Trump remains open to diplomatic solutions, she emphasized that no course of action has been ruled out.
“He’s been very direct with the Iranian leadership, and his national security team will echo that message — every option remains available,” Leavitt said. “Iran faces a clear decision: comply with President Trump’s demands or face serious consequences. The president is deeply committed to this stance and feels very strongly about it.”
U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff is scheduled to meet with an Iranian delegation on Saturday in Oman. According to Iranian state media, Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi will lead the Iranian side, with Oman’s Foreign Minister, Badr al-Busaidi, acting as mediator.
In February, President Trump reinstated his “maximum pressure” policy against Tehran, aiming to eliminate Iran’s oil exports entirely as part of a broader strategy to prevent the country from developing a nuclear weapon. Earlier this week, Trump warned that if the negotiations fail, “Iran will be in serious trouble.”
