Tragic IED Blast in Balochistan kills Three Police Officers
Deadly Blast Targets Police in Balochistan, Claims Three Lives
At least three police officers lost their lives and 16 others were wounded after a bomb exploded near a police bus in Mastung, a district in Pakistan’s restive Balochistan province on Tuesday.
🔴 No militant outfit has taken responsibility for the assault yet, although the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) remains the most active separatist group in the region and has been behind several deadly attacks on Pakistani forces.
Details of the Attack
According to local officials, an improvised explosive device (IED) planted on the roadside detonated as a police vehicle passed, en route from Kalat to Quetta.
“The blast occurred in Mastung, about 40 km from Quetta. Three police personnel have been martyred, while 16 others sustained injuries,” said Shahid Rind, spokesperson for the provincial government.
🩸 Two officers are reported to be in critical condition, and have been airlifted to Quetta for emergency care.

Government’s Response
🇵🇰 Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the act of terror, vowing that the fight against extremism and insurgency would continue without compromise.
Provincial authorities have demanded a full investigation report, aiming to uncover those responsible and bolster security operations in the area.
Balochistan: A Region on Edge
Balochistan, which shares borders with Afghanistan and Iran, has long suffered from a separatist insurgency, with frequent attacks on military personnel and infrastructure.
Tensions have further intensified since March 2, after several separatist factions, including the BLA, announced a unified militant front.
🔥 Violence peaked on March 11 when insurgents hijacked the Jaffar Express carrying over 400 passengers. That standoff ended with 33 militants killed during a two-day military operation. Tragically, 26 lives were also lost, including 18 soldiers.
Another bombing on March 27 injured 20 and killed three in Quetta, again targeting a police unit.
Regional Spillover from Afghanistan
The recent upsurge in violence in both Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is believed to be linked to the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan. Pakistan has accused the Afghan administration of offering safe haven to militant groups responsible for cross-border attacks.
