Katy Perry Joins All-Women Crew on Blue Origin Rocket Launch

n a groundbreaking event for space travel, pop icon Katy Perry embarked on a journey past Earth’s atmosphere on Monday aboard Blue Origin’s New Shepard spacecraft. She joined an all-female team, which also included Lauren Sanchez – fiancée of Jeff Bezos – and television personality Gayle King.

The rocket lifted off from West Texas at 8:30 a.m. local time, climbing beyond 100 kilometers in altitude and breaching the Kármán line, which officially marks the edge of space. The flight, entirely automated, lasted just under 10 minutes and gave the crew a short but thrilling experience of weightlessness.

Upon safely returning to Earth, a visibly moved Perry knelt and kissed the ground, rating the mission as “a perfect 10” and urging others to experience space travel. “Being up there made me realize how much love we truly carry within ourselves,” she said.

Gayle King revealed that during the brief time in space, Perry serenaded the crew with “What a Wonderful World,” adding an emotional layer to the adventure. “It’s incredibly quiet up there. Looking at Earth from that perspective makes you reflect on how tiny we are – and how much better we can be,” King said.

This flight, Blue Origin’s 11th suborbital human mission, made history as the first all-women crew since Valentina Tereshkova’s solo space journey in 1963. Other crew members included film executive Kerianne Flynn, ex-NASA engineer Aisha Bowe, and human rights advocate Amanda Nguyen.

Perry shared that her decision to participate stemmed from a personal motivation. “I did this for my daughter Daisy. I want her to grow up believing that no dream is out of reach,” she mentioned in a pre-launch chat with Elle.

As private space companies like Blue Origin, Virgin Galactic, and SpaceX continue pushing the boundaries of tourism and technology, missions like these not only break new ground but also serve as a source of inspiration for the generations to come.
