Menhirs sites

  • Menhir means a large standing stone (contain embossed figures of humans, animals and weapons)
  • Culture ministry has declared the Menhirs, its surrounding caves and forest as protected areas
  • In Mizoram, Villagers call the site “Kawtchhuah Ropui” (The Great Gateway)
  • The site lies on the bank of the Tiau River which separates India and Myanmar
  • Menhirs or monoliths are found in Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Andhra Pradesh but are not common in the rest of India.

Nalanda University

  • Founded by Mahayana monks Asnaga & Vasubandhu in 400-500 AD, during the reign of Kumargupta 1
  • Chinese pilgrim Hiuen Tsang, came during Harsha’s reign, gave detail account of Nalanda University
  • Primary teaching focus: Mahayana Buddhism, yet included other ‘secular’ subjects as well- Like, Grammar, logic, epistemology and sciences.
  • 1193 AD: Turkish ruler Qutbuddin Aibak’s general Bakhtiyar Khilji destroyed Nalanda University
  • 2006: President Kalam proposed setting up this university Nalanda University Act
  • University aims to become a research university, not a teaching university Doctorate & Post Graduate courses

  • Organized by TRIFED to give tribal artisans an opportunity to showcase & sell their traditional Art & Craft works

  • focuses on trainings for skill upgradation & capacity building of tribal artisans

  • A weeklong National Tribal Festival inaugurated by Union Minister of Tribal Affairs



Vanbandhu Kalyan Yojana

  • Aimed to lift human development indices of tribal people scheme was launched on pilot basis in one block each of 10 States with low literacy rate
  • Initially the blocks having at least 33 % of tribal population compared to total population of the block will be targeted
  • Union Government will provide 10 crore rupees for each block for the development of various facilities for the Tribal people
  • Focuses on bridging infrastructural gaps & gap in human development indices between Schedule tribes & other social groups

Vanbandhu Kalyan Yojana

  • For provision of quality education to the tribal, Ministry sanctioned about 184 Eklavya Residential Schools
  • Minimum selling price for Minor Forest Produce will be implemented in schedule V States initially
  • A web based portal will also be developed which will indicate current price of MFPs on real time basis across different vegetable markets of the States
